Chandrababu Naidu has asked people to cap the borewells that have become dysfunctional. He has also directed the officials to create awareness among the people on the need to report to the authorities concerned about any borewell that has been left uncovered. Mr. Naidu on Thursday met the team that recently rescued two-year-old Chandrasekhar from a borewell at Ummadivaram in Vinukonda mandal of Guntur district. Interacting with them, Mr. Naidu asked the officials to document the strategy adopted in rescuing the child as it could be used as case study for future reference. The team, comprising officials of various departments, explained the Chief Minister how the rescue operation was conducted. They explained how a life-supporting system was arranged and traffic plan worked out, and how earth-movers were mobilised before launching excavation work adjacent to the borewell. “A lateral burrow was dug to reach the child from the bottom so as to prevent the child from further sinking. Sufficient diesel and oxygen cylinders were kept ready. Night plans were made anticipating a prolonged operation and the child was kept engaged with the help of conversations and music. The NDRF provided borewell-specific and victim-locating cameras,” they said. Deposit for child Mr. Naidu made a deposit of ?2 lakh in the name of the child. The deposit, on maturity after 20 years, would help the child get ?20 lakh.
