Kollam panchayat in Denkada mandal, said P.V.A.V.S. He said the tree would be felled on a auspicious day and carted to the chief priest’s house at Hukumpeta where it would be shaped into a ceremonial pole. In the morning, amid chanting of Vedic hymns by rithviks and beating of drums, ‘Pandiri Raata’ was laid at ‘Chaduru Gudi’and ‘Vanam Gudi, which indicates beginning of the celebrations.
