    June 25 – A state of emergency was declared by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi during which the press was censored and 1,00,000 were jailed. President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed passed an ordinance about how the state was in danger. All the fundamental rights were suspended, politicians were arrested and a heavy censorship was imposed on the media. It lasted for a 21-month period from 1975 to 1977.

    On 12th June 1975, Allahabad High Court convicted Indira Gandhi for electoral malpractices and declared her election null & void, thereby banning her from contesting any election for 6 years. She was found guilty on the charge of misuse of Govt machinery for the 1971 General election campaign.

    The main justification of the JP Movement was that it arose to end corruption in Indian life and politics, whose Fountainhead was ostensibly Mrs. Gandhi, and to defend a democracy which was threatened by her authoritarian personality and style of politics and administration. JP often accused Indira Gandhi of trying to destroy all democratic institutions and establish a Soviet-backed dictatorship in her hunger for power.

    April 19-The first Indian satellite, Aryabhata, goes into Earth's orbit. It was launched by India on from Kapustin Yar, a Russian rocket launch and development site in Astrakhan Oblastusing a Kosmos-3M launch vehicle. It was built by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) to gain experience in building and operating a satellite in space.

    March 15-The Indian Men Hockey team accomplished a historic feat against Pakistan in the Finals of the 1975 Hockey World Cup wherein they beat the opponents 2-1 to earn the title of ‘Champions’.
