The hijacked Indian airline was forced to land in Lahore, Samjhauta Express started between Amritsar and Lahore

Three men hijacked an Indian Airlines Boeing 737 plane carrying 84 persons over India during a flight from New Delhi to Bombay and forced it to land in Pakistan. They began releasing hostages who became ill after being confined to the plane in sweltering heat for more than five hours.

Samjhauta Express that was launched in 1976, the train was launched to permit divided families to visit relatives and to foster commerce and tourism. The launch was a key element in the efforts of the Indian and Pakistani governments to improve frosty and tense relations between them.

Mukesh died of a heart attack on 27 August 1976 in Detroit, Michigan, US, where he went to perform in a concert. His full name was Mukesh Chand Mathur, but popularly people called him Mukesh.  He was one of the most popular and legendary singers of his era.

The Aryabhata was commemorated in stamps by both India and the Soviet Union. The satellite even graced the back of the Indian Rs 2 note printed between 1976 and 1997.
