Co-founder of the tech-based platform of Infosys, ShiksaLokam, S D Shibulal, is keen on training and enabling over 1.5 million school leaders to improve the quality of education imparted as COVID-19 wrecks havoc in the education sector.

The philanthropic entity, which mentors local partners and teachers to build a network that can work with government bodies and impact learning outcomes, has so far enabled nearly 320,000 leaders, including teachers, government officials and others.

He said the platform has also helped state schools to adopt the new-normal of online learning in some states.

Shibulal said, “COVID-19 has disrupted education like never before and now everything is being done digitally with zero touch. Wherever ShiksaLokam has been adopted, the state actors have been more resilient in managing the education system during the outbreak.”

Till date, ShiksaLokam has reached to various state-run schools in Delhi, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh and Goa and will expand to six more states in the coming 12 months.

The platform has been fundamental to government bodies, stakeholders, officials and professional individuals with its open-source technology and resources. It seeks to bridge the gaps in education leadership development.

“With 3.2 lakh users on our platforms and 2,500 plus learning assets, we currently impact 15 million students—which is almost 5 percent of school-going children of India,” said Shibulal on the impact of ShiksaLokam in schools.
