Bengaluru: 78-Year-Old Woman Diagnosed With Pneumonia, Goes To Vote On Stretcher

Lok Sabha Polls: A 78-year-old woman in Bengaluru was taken to the poll booth on a stretcher after she expressed her desire to cast a vote while she was on oxygen support. The woman, identified as Kalavathi, was rushed to Manipal Hospital Jayanagar on Tuesday due to cough and breathlessness. When she was admitted to the hospital, her oxygen saturation level was 80%, which is typically 95% or greater, according to the doctors. After conducting a check-up, it was found that she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Her treatment was started by Aravinda GM, a physician at Manipal Hospital in Jayanagar, who also administered oxygen therapy, inhalation, antiviral drugs, and supportive care in addition to antibiotics, according to a report by NDTV. As her condition improved, she was shifted to the recovery room. Kalavathi then said she wanted to exercise her right to vote. She was carried on a stretcher to the Jayanagar constituency to cast her ballot with the help of the hospital staff. Bengaluru Woman Suffers Cardiac Arrest At Polling Booth, Doctor Performs CPR And Saves Her In another separate incident, a woman collapsed at the polling booth after having a cardiac arrest on Friday. The Bengaluru nephrologist found she didnt have a pulse and started cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). The woman was brought back to consciousness and she soon regained spontaneous circulation. Karnata Lok Sabha Polls Voting is currently underway in 14 Lok Sabha constituencies of Karnataka including Udupi Chikamagalur, Hassan, Dakshina Kannada, Chitradurga, Tumkur, Mandya, Mysore, Chamarajanagar, Bangalore Rural, Bangalore North, Bangalore Central, Bangalore South, Chikballapur, Kolar. The state recorded a voter turnout of 38.23 per cent till 1 PM. According to the Election Commission of India, voting began at 7 am on Friday in 88 constituencies across 13 states and union territories for the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls 2024.
