UP Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 2: State Logs 53.34% Voting Amid EVM Crash, Boycotts; Amroha Sees Highest Voter Turnout

UP Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 2: The voting on the eight constituencies of Uttar Pradesh ended on Friday evening for the second phase of the seven-phased 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The eight Lok Sabha seats that went to polls today were Amroha, Meerut, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bulandshahr, Aligarh, and Mathura. A total of 91 candidates contested the election in UP in the second phase, among which the key candidates were Hema Malini, who is seeking a third term from Mathura, and Arun Govil, who played the role of Lord Rama in the popular TV serial Ramayan, who contested from Meerut. Both of them contested on the BJP ticket. Congress Danish Ali contested from Amroha and BJPs Atul Garg from Ghaziabad. Incumbent MP Mahesh Sharma of the BJP is contested again from Gautam Buddha Nagar, bordering Delhi. According to the data by the Election Commission of India (ECI), a total of 53.34 per cent voter turnout was recorded till 7 PM. The polling for Indias parliamentary election in UP began at 7 AM and ended at 6 PM. As many as 92 candidates were in the fray for the high-octane battle in Uttar Pradesh. There were over 1.67 crore voters eligible to exercise their franchise in these eight Lok Sabha constituencies, out of which 90.11 lakh are male voters, 77.38 lakh are female voters and 787 are of the third gender. UP Lok Sabha Election 2024 Phase 2 Wrap The polling for the second phase in the eight constituencies of UP began with tight security arrangements at the Ghazipur border and other key areas. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar assured of all necessary arrangements made for free and fair polling. As many as 42 companies of the central forces were deployed for free and fair polling in the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls in the Meerut-Hapur region. Helicopters and air ambulances were deployed in Aligarh and Meerut respectively. 79 checkpoints were set up at the inter-district borders of Mathura, Aligarh, Baghpat, Gautam Buddh Nagar, and Ghaziabad. There was complete silence at the polling centre here. However, Bulandshahr villagers ended the poll boycott after SDMs intervention. Several complaints of voters names missing from the list were reported in Meerut. Aligarhs Koel also reported EVM malfunctioning. Several instances of EVM glitches have also been reported. In Noidas Sector 66 Centre, an EVM glitch was reported at Booth Number 161 in Mamura. The replacement machine brought also become faulty. In Bulandshahr, voting was paused for 25 minutes due to a malfunction in the EVM at the primary school in Heerapur Kala village, Deobai. Polling resumed after the machine was replaced. Voter Turnout In Each Eight Lok Sabha Seats Uttar Pradesh recorded an approximate voter turnout of 53.34 per cent in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024. Among the eight Lok Sabha seats that ran for polling today, Amroha is leading the charts with 62.36 voting percentage till 7 PM, according to data by the ECI. Mathura recorded the lowest voter turnout with 47.45 per cent. According to the polling body data, Aligarh recorded 56.27 per cent of voter turnout, Baghpat recorded 53.30 per cent, Bulandshahr recorded 54.34 per cent, Gautam Buddh Nagar saw 51.92 per cent voter turnout, Ghaziabad witnessed 48.21 per cent voter turnout and Meerut recorded 55.49 per cent.
