Amritsar, January 20 The Class IV workers from various health institutions staged a protest at Dr Vidya Sagar Institute of Mental Health here today. The protest was organised by Darja-Char Sarkari Karamchari Union under the leadership of its block president Kamal Kanojia. Kanojia said the union had been demanding the abolition of the contractual employment system. “We have been observing it for years that contractual system is a tool for the exploitation of workers. Those employed for a meagre pay are given no facilities but have to work more than what regular employees do,” he said. District president Gurdeep Singh said the government was not making recruitment on vacant posts as a result of which the workload on existing employees was increasing. Employees also raised the issue of non-payment of arrears of dearness allowance, non-implementation of the pay commission report, release of uniform allowance and clearance of the pending bills of the employees.
