Village school to be named after martyr

BATHINDA: The memorial service to 24-year-old sepoy Sukhwinder Singh was held at his native Hakam Singh Wala village in Bathinda on Sunday. He had visited the village last month and had went back on May 18. The announcements were made by Punjab power minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and CM’s advisor lieutenant general (retired) T S Shergill while paying tributes to the martyr Sukhwinder had joined the Army in 2012. We never knew that he will come back wrapped in Tricolour”. Expressing appreciation for his act of bravery, the state government handed over cheques worth Rs 10.25 lakh to the bereaved family.They also announced to name the village school after the soldier and to provide job to his brother in the Punjab ex-serviceman corporation (PESCO).

Sukhwinder had fallen while pushing off an attack by terrorists in Keran sector of Jammu and Kashmir on June 7.He had sustained bullet injuries during the attack along the line of control in while he was patrolling the forward areas. Expressing appreciation for his act of bravery, the state government handed over cheques worth Rs 10.25 lakh to the bereaved family.They also announced to name the village school after the soldier and to provide job to his brother in the Punjab ex-serviceman corporation (PESCO). The announcements were made by Punjab power minister Gurpreet Singh Kangar and CM’s advisor lieutenant general (retired) T S Shergill while paying tributes to the martyr Sukhwinder had joined the Army in 2012. He is survived by his parents and two brothers. A job to the brother of the deceased will be provided in ex-servicemen’s corporation as per his qualification.Sukhwinder’ farmer father Naib Singh and mother Harjinder Kaur said, “We are proud of his sacrifice as he has laid down his life for the motherland. He had visited the village last month and had went back on May 18. We never knew that he will come back wrapped in Tricolour”.
