Amritsar, July 8 Four persons were injured when a group of men, said to be drug peddlers, attacked them in Ranike village here on Sunday. They were admitted to the Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. The injured have been identified as Pritpal Singh, Harpreet Singh and their relative Ranjit Singh. Ranjit sustained a bullet injury on his thigh. Swarn Singh, brother of Pritpal Singh, said several persons in the village were indulged in drug peddling. The villagers had lodged several complaints against them with the Gharinda police, but the police did not take action. “They were creating a nuisance in the village after consuming drugs. When the villagers asked them to stop, they attacked them with sharp-edge weapons and firearms,” he said. He said his relative Ranjit sustained a bullet injury on one of his thigh while Pritpal, Harpreet and their father Darshan Singh got hurt. SSP Parampal Singh said the police are trying to ascertain if the suspects are drug peddlers or it is a case of enmity.
