‘BRTS ride to be free for school students in uniform’

AMRITSAR: No school students in uniform would be charged for a ride in Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS), local government minister Navjot Singh announced on Friday. Instead, the government would provide facility of loan for running auto on CNG or battery, which would help reduce air and noise pollution. He added that to familiarize people to the soon to be launched service, the ride will be free for all for the first three months.While talking to mediapersons here on Friday, Sidhu said that BRTS would be inaugurated on October 15. He added that chief minister Amarinder Singh had given consent to put the project back to track, which was initiated during SAD-BJP government regime at the cost of Rs 500 crore.“BRTS buses will provide facility of free travel for everyone for first three months and the school children could avail this facility absolutely free of cost for all times to come,” he said.The 31 kilometre route would have 47 bus stations out of which six stations and one big bus stand were still under completion, Sidhu said.Speaking on the issue of autorickshaws causing pollution and hindrance to the project, Sidhu said that government wouldn’t snatch any person’s source of livelihood.
