Temple of Dalits razed, 34 booked

"A resident, Jarnail Singh, donated three kanals (1,500 square yards) to the Dalits for constructing the temple. We had started raising the structure, but other villagers living near the spot - Ajaib Singh, Hachand Singh and Buta Singh, followers of Dera Sacha Sauda - had been claiming ownership of the land. BATHINDA: Police have registered a case against 34 men, 25 of whom are yet to be identified, for allegedly razing a temple which was being constructed in Warring village, Muktsar.The local Dalit community was constructing the temple dedicated to Sant Ravidass. They had approached the court, which had decided the matter in the favour of Dalit," he said in his complaint to the police. "Buta has been rounded up," the SHO said.

BATHINDA: Police have registered a case against 34 men, 25 of whom are yet to be identified, for allegedly razing a temple which was being constructed in Warring village, Muktsar.The local Dalit community was constructing the temple dedicated to Sant Ravidass. However, locals alleged that nearly 50 men reached the spot on Friday evening, assaulted people who tried to stop them, and then destroyed the under-construction structure.Village resident Anmol Singh said there were nearly 40 houses of Ramdassia Dalits in the village. Bariwala station house officer (SHO) Malkit Singh said a case had been registered sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class), 323 (causing hurt), 148 (rioting) and 149 (unlawful assembly) of the IPC against Ajaib, Harchand and Buta; Aulakh village residents Parvinder Singh, Shaminder Singh and Avtar Singh; Rupana village's Harman Singh, Lakki of Muktsar, Sabu Singh of Goniana, and 25 others. "Buta has been rounded up," the SHO said.
