Anti-narcotics cell incharge held with drug money

On finding the allegations to be true, Ramesh was arrested on Sunday and a case was registered against him. He had shown a recovery of only Rs 1,580 while keeping Rs 1.44 lakh with him. Police also recovered Rs 1.24 lakh of the ill-gotten money.

BATHINDA: Moga police on Sunday arrested anti-narcotics cell incharge inspector Ramesh Pal Singh and registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act.Ramesh, posted at Moga city-I police station, is accused of having seized drug money totalling Rs 2.43 lakh, along with some gold jewellery, from the residence of a woman residing on the Moga-Dosanjh road, who was arrested with 5kg poppy husk on August 7. He had shown the recovery of only Rs 1,580 in the case registered under Narcotics Drugs Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Ramesh is alleged to have returned Rs 97,000 to the son of the woman.Sources said a policeman informed senior officials about the money kept by inspector Ramesh. Moga SSP Gurpreet Sing Toor got an inquiry conducted by DSP (investigations) Harinder Singh Doad. On finding the allegations to be true, Ramesh was arrested on Sunday and a case was registered against him. Police also recovered Rs 1.24 lakh of the ill-gotten money. The sources said the inspector kept the entire money with him, which prompted someone to complain against him.Doad said, “Inspector Ramesh had seized Rs 2.43 lakh from the residence of the arrested woman and returned Rs 97,000 to her. He had shown a recovery of only Rs 1,580 while keeping Rs 1.44 lakh with him. Of that, Rs 1.24 lakh had been recovered. He has been arrested.”
