AMRITSAR: Two unidentified motorcycle-borne man threw acid on a BEd student in Ajnala Tehsil near Amritsar on Friday. The 23-year-old woman was walking back to her home when she was attacked.She has sustained 8% injuries on the side of her face and neck, said Amritsar rural superintendent of police (operations) Shailender Singh.The name of the woman and her village was being withheld to protect her identity. The SP said that the girl had recently taken admission in BEd in a college at Fatehgarh Churian town. On Friday afternoon, she was going back to her home after attending the college when the two unidentified men, who had covered their faces, threw acid on her face and fled immediately.As she cried for help, passersby took her to a nearby hospital. During preliminary investigations, the incident appeared to be the handiwork of a spurned lover, who with the help of his accomplice, threw acid on the woman, police sources said. Her clothes were also burnt since a large part of acid fell on them, police said.Shailendra said that the victim had said that she could not identify the attackers as their faces were covered. Police were recording her statement on the basis of which FIR would be lodged, he added.
