Panthic activists stopped from going to SAD rally venue

FARIDKOT: Demanding FIRs against former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and his son and deputy Sukhbir Badal for acts of sacrilege during SAD-BJP government tenure, members of panthic organizations protested here on Sunday.The protesters wanted to reach the SAD rally venue at new grain market but they were stopped at the outskirts of Faridkot. A few of them, who managed to enter the town, were detained and released later. Some of the protesters allegedly damaged three vehicles of Akalis returning after the rally.Nearly 200 protesters assembled at the canal bridge in the morning at the outskirts of Faridkot where police had made elaborate arrangements. The protesters succeeded in getting past but were stopped near police lines, at some distance from the canal bridge. Halted, the protesters sat on the road and blocked the traffic. Some of the protesters further succeeded in reaching the Ghaniya chowk in the town.“We had come to hold protest against the SAD rally but police did not allowed us to reach the venue. We want a case to be registered against Badals for their alleged role in cases of sacrilege and they should be arrested,” said United Akali Dal general secretary Gurdeep Singh.At the same time, members of panthak organizations and informal Sarbat Khalsa-appointed parallel jathedars Dhian singh Mand and Baljit Singh Daduwal continued to stage ‘insaf morcha’ at Bargari. The road at Bargari was kept open for commuters. Daduwal and Mand denied Sukhbir’s charges and said he was telling lies.Faridkot SSP Rajbachan Singh Sandhu said only some persons were detained and they too were released. He denied that any person was arrested with a pistol as alleged by Badal in his address.Sukhbir targeted informal Sarbat Khalsa-appointed parallel jathedar Dhian Singh Mand and alleged that on September 11, a deed for purchase of agricultural land in Ferozepur district had been registered in the cleric’s his name.
