BATHINDA: A youth from Giddarbaha in Muktsar committed suicide on Thursday hours before a team of the Haryana police came to arrest him on charges of rape. The Haryana cops also allegedly misbehaved with the family members of the deceased, who has been identified as Vikram. Residents of the locality where Vikram resided with his family also reportedly confronted the cops.Vikram's brother Gurjeet said his brother had married a girl from Mohindergarh district in Haryana on March 16, 2018, against the wishes of the girl’s family. The girl, after staying at Giddarbaha for a few days, had gone to her parents and had filed a rape complaint against Vikram. Gurjeet further alleged that parents of the girl had been harassing his brother. On Thursday, a team of Haryana police reached Giddarbaha to inquire into the case. Gurjeet added that Vikram committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling fan when the police team reached their home. Accodring to Gurjeet, his brother has left behind a suicide note wherein he had accused his in laws of harassing him.Sources said that the Haryana police had reached Giddarbaha without informing the local police. It has also been alleged that Vikram’s neighbours had found a liquor bottle in the vehicle of the Haryana police after which they had thrashed the police personnel in civvies.Giddarbaha police inquiry officer (IO) Sukhwinder Singh said the local police was looking into the matter and a case was being registered against persons named in the suicide note.Meanwhile, members of Haryana police team denied misbehaving with Vikram’s family members and said they had come to investigate the rape case registered against the deceased.
