BATHINDA: Out to show black flags to former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal before his meeting at Talwandi Sabo in Bathinda , members of panthic organizations clashed with activists of Shiromani Akali Dal on Friday on the Talwandi-Rama road. In total, three persons sustained injuries in the clash.Earlier on Thursday, members of Sikh outfits had shown black flags to SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal at Sangrur and had also thrown a shoe at his convoy.About two dozen activists of Sikh organisations, led by Parminder Singh Balianwali, assembled on the Talwandi-Rama road at some distance from a banquet hall where Badal was to address a meeting to mobilize people for the Patiala rally on October 7.They stopped a bus carrying Akali workers and had heated exchanges with them. One Akali worker was thrashed. The Akali workers called others from the banquet hall and both sides had an altercation. The Akali workers retaliated and attacked the Sikh activists. They hit one Darshan Singh with a stick, who suffered injuries on his arms and near the neck. Two Akali workers also sustained injuries.Police detained the members of the Sikh outfits but let them off after some time.Balianwali said, “We wanted to show black flags to Badal but Akali workers assaulted some of our members. They attacked Darshan who suffered injuries”.Akali worker Santokh Singh said members of panthic bodies stopped their bus and thrashed one of their party members.Talwandi Sabo deputy superintendent of police (DSP) Barinder Singh said, “Both parties have been called and statements will be recorded. Appropriate action will be taken in the matter.”
