Black or white? Punjab breeder sold horse with dyed coat for 18 lakh

BATHINDA: A Faridkot-based horse breeder and retired deputy district attorney was duped by a group of conmen who sold him a horse that was dyed black for Rs 17.50 lakh.Black is an uncommon colour in horses, and black horses of Marwari breed fetch higher price compared to those of other colour of the same breed.Horse breeder Karanbir Inder Singh Sekhon of Faridkot, whose family is involved in business of horses, realised that he had been duped when white spots started surfacing on the body of the "black horse" a few days after the sale. After some time, the horse, a stallion, eventually turned white. Police have registered a case of cheating against eight people, but none has been arrested."I had purchased a black Marwari breed stallion in November 2017 from horse merchant Mewa Singh and his men. They had claimed that the stallion belonged to renowned horse breeding family in Rajasthan . They had demanded Rs 24 lakh but settled for Rs 17.5 lakh," said Sekhon."I paid the entire amount and got the horse. It is after few days that the white spots started surfacing on the horse and it turned white after that. It is then that we realized that a white horse had been dyed black," Sekhon added."I approached the sellers, but got no reply and I got to know that they are habitual offenders and had duped other people as well at Bathinda , Jagraon and Ludhiana. I then approached the police," added Sekhon.Faridkot City station house officer Iqbal Singh said, "A case under Sections 420 (cheating and dishonesty) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) has been registered.
