Angry residents of colonies near Bathinda waste plant seek its relocation

Earlier, the area residents had held massive protests during the previous SAD-BJP regime.Residents have formed a panel ‘Solid Waste Plant Virodhi Action Committee’. Bathinda: Angry over delay in relocating the solid waste management plant in Bathinda, residents of various colonies in the vicinity have decided to renew their protest for shifting it away from habitation. The residents want to remind the Congress government of its promise. We have decided to restart our protests for the relocation of the plant. The residents have decided to hold a meeting on Monday, to chalk out their plan for restarting the agitation.Before the 2017 assembly elections, the Congress had assured to shift the plant located on the Mansa road.

Committee convener Jeet Singh Joshi on Thursday said the thousands of residents of a dozen colonies were facing lots of problems due to foul smell and gases emitted by the plant.“We are leading miserable lives due to the waste processing plant near our homes. We have taken up the matter with the Congress leaders to remind the assurance made by the party but no heed has been paid to our demand. We have decided to restart our protests for the relocation of the plant. We will hold a meeting of the residents of all the residential colonies and will decide about the course of action to be adopted,” he added.A few days ago, finance minister Manpreet Singh Badal had said the state government was looking for alternative site to shift the waste management plant.
