Faridkot district court denies anticipatory bail to three cops

The court has rejected the bail applications of the three cops.”A member of the SIT said with the court refusing bail to cops, now it would make efforts to arrest them. Two persons Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh were killed and some others were injured in police firing at Behbal Kalan village. These cops do not deserve bail in the heinous crime of murder and attempt to murder. “We want to know as to who had given orders for firing on protesters,” he added. The incident had taken place on October 14, 2015.Ex-SSP Sharma is in police custody till February 4.

BATHINDA: The court of Faridkot district and sessions judge Harpal Singh on Saturday rejected anticipatory bail applications of three policemen in connection with the Behbal Kalan firing case in which two Sikh protesters were killed.The cops, superintendent of police (SP) Bikramjit Singh, inspector Pardeep Singh and sub-inspector Amarjit Singh, had on January 28 filed applications for anticipatory bail after former Moga SSP Charanjit Sharma was arrested by the special investigation team (SIT) of Punjab Police on January 26. The SIT is probing cases of sacrilege and police firing.On August 11, 2018, names of the four cops were added to the case registered on October 21, 2015, at Bajakhana police station in Faridkot district for the killing of two protesters in police firing at Behbal Kalan village. The incident had taken place on October 14, 2015.Ex-SSP Sharma is in police custody till February 4. The counsel of SP Bikramjit Singh had even deposited his passport in the court with assurance that the cop would not go out of the country without the court’s permission.District attorney Rajnish Kumar Goyal told TOI, “We argued that the cops are needed for custodial interrogation to get to the bottom of the incident. Two persons Krishan Bhagwan Singh and Gurjit Singh were killed and some others were injured in police firing at Behbal Kalan village. These cops do not deserve bail in the heinous crime of murder and attempt to murder.
