Apprehending trouble, Kashmiri students restrict movement in Punjab

JALANDHAR: Amid incidents of assault on Kashmiri students and others from the state, the Kashmiri students in Jalandhar have restricted their movement apprehending trouble Meanwhile, the police have procured the lists of the students, along with places they are staying, and have increased vigil around the educational institutions where they are studying.“We are not going outside fearing trouble. Our staff also remains in touch with them,” said Manbir Singh, managing director of CT Institutes, where several Kashmiri students are studying. “We are five students in this PG, but we are not even going to the nearby market. “Several of them are not yet back,” he said.St Solider Group of Institutes managing director Manhar Arora said that Kashmiri students were remaining careful on their own.The commissioner of police, Gurpreet Singh Bhullar, said that they were being vigilant. Police vehicle has also been stationed outside our campus to ensure their security.

It is completely safe inside the campus, but nobody knows what waits for us on the way,” said Mudasir, a student of a local institute staying in a paying guest(PG) accommodation in Gagan Vihar in Basti Bawa Khel area.He revealed that most of the students were still in Kashmir, as the roads are yet to be cleared off snow. “We are five students in this PG, but we are not even going to the nearby market. We don’t want to catch attention given the atmosphere being created on social media. Police officials came to us today and verified our details, asked who are staying here and who have not yet returned. There were no other questions,” he said.Meanwhile, Faisal, a student of BTech and living in the hostel of St Soldier Institutes, said that in the campus or hostel they never had any problem, but they were taking care while going outside.“Police took the details of Kashmiri students who are living here. Police vehicle has also been stationed outside our campus to ensure their security.
