Punjab: SGRDIMSR adopts five villages each in border districts

AMRITSAR: Dedicated to 550th birth anniversary of Sikh’s first guru Guru Nanak and opening of Kartarpur Corridor, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC)-run Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research ( SGRDIMSR ) has announced to adopt five villages each in the border districts of Punjab and opening of a dedicated dispensary for the devotees at Kartarpur Corridor complex.While talking to TOI on Wednesday, chief secretary, SGPC, Dr Roop Singh said that in order to provide quality health care at people's doorstep, SGRDIMSR would adopt five villages each in the border districts.Giving further details, Dean, SGRDIMSR Dr AP Singh, said they would provide free consultation to the patients at their villages. Besides, the patients wouldn’t be charged anything for hospital admission or for the operations.He observed that till date quality health services were elusive in the border areas and considering the same SGRDIMSR took the initiative ahead of 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak.AP Singh further informed that SGRDIMSR would also open a dispensary at Indian side of Kartarpur corridor at Dera Baba Nanak to facilitate the devotees going on pilgrimage to Pakistan through the corridor. “We have proposed to make a small five-bed dispensary equipped with all the necessary medical equipment and specialist doctors,” he said.In recent past, civil surgeon Gurdaspur Dr Kishan Chand had also proposed to upgrade the Dera Baba Nanak hospital to 50-bed hospital along with required medical equipment and facilities.Dean, SGRDIMSR, informed that they were also contemplating to offer Pakistan government for the opening of a similar dispensary in the Pakistan side of Kartarpur Corridor for the visiting devotees.Ahead of Guru Nanak’s 550 anniversary, he said SGRDIMSR would also give special concession to Sikh minority community of Pakistan and Afghanistan for medical treatment at the SGPC’s medical institutes.
