Army jawan dies in Pakistan firing along LoC

BATHINDA: An Army jawan from Moga died on Monday in a ceasefire violation by Pakistan along the Line of Control ( LoC ) in Sunderbani Sector of Rajouri district in Jammu and Kashmir Rifleman Karamjeet Singh (24) was from Janer village in Moga and had joined the Army four years ago. His father Avtar Singh too had served the Army and retired as Naik a few years ago.Karamjeet is survived by parents, elder brother and a married sister. We can’t keep losing our sons in such skirmishes between India and Pakistan. Pakistan is supporting terrorism which is killing our sons on the border. I want our Prime Minister to find a permanent solution to this and save young men, who are sacrificing their lives every other day, at the borders,” he said.“Initially, Karamjeet wanted to settle abroad, but agreed to join the Army when I persisted.

His mother Kulwant Kaur fell unconscious after getting the news. However, his father stayed strong, saying he was proud of his father’s supreme sacrifice but wanted the Union government to settle the issue of ceasefire violation and heavy shelling by Pakistan once and for all.“Our government needs to settle the issue either by talks or teaching the enemy a lesson. We can’t keep losing our sons in such skirmishes between India and Pakistan. I want our Prime Minister to find a permanent solution to this and save young men, who are sacrificing their lives every other day, at the borders,” he said.“Initially, Karamjeet wanted to settle abroad, but agreed to join the Army when I persisted. He used to play kabaddi in school,” he recalled.Karamjeet’s uncle Rupinder Singh added, “We want this (proxy war by Pak) to end, as we cannot afford to sacrifice our sons in this undeclared war. Pakistan is supporting terrorism which is killing our sons on the border. Though we are against war, we want the government to tackle the issue with a concrete action plan of action.”The mortal remains of Karamjeet will reach his native village on Tuesday.Almost a month ago, on February 14, head constable Jaimal Singh from Moga had died along with 39 others in Jaish-e-Mohammed attack on CRPF convoy at Pulwama in Jammu and Kashmir.
