Drug racket running from jail busted, three arrests made

According to a police investigation, the accused were running their racket using mobile and making payments from mobile application ‘Paytm’. Besides, the police have booked four prisoners — Palwinder Singh of Kukkranwala, Sukhwinder Singh of Pakka Killa Jhabal, Eric, aias Kanni, of Fateh Singh Colony and Prince of Fakir Singh Colony. DCP (Investigations) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said four jail inmates were running a drug network from inside the jail. Responding to this, jail authorities launched a search operation and seized three mobile phones from Prince, Sukhwinder Singh and Sukhchain Singh.

Amritsar, June 7 With the arrest of three persons, the city police on Friday claimed to have busted a drug racket running allegedly from inside the Amritsar Central Jail. The police have booked eight persons, including four prisoners, in the case. According to a police investigation, the accused were running their racket using mobile and making payments from mobile application ‘Paytm’. The police have confiscated 900 intoxicating tablets and three mobile phones from three persons. They have been identified as Gurmit Singh, alias Happy (32), of Gate Hakima, Rajinder Singh, alias Raju (38), of Fakir Singh Colony and Lakhwinder Singh (33) of Navi Abadi locality. Their fourth accomplice Arun Sharma of Katra Khazana is still absconding and raids are on for his arrest. Besides, the police have booked four prisoners — Palwinder Singh of Kukkranwala, Sukhwinder Singh of Pakka Killa Jhabal, Eric, aias Kanni, of Fateh Singh Colony and Prince of Fakir Singh Colony. DCP (Investigations) Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar said four jail inmates were running a drug network from inside the jail. They used to provide drugs to addicted inmates. The addicts made payments to them through their relatives through Paytm. The DCP said that in the past one year, they made transactions worth around Rs 10 lakh through this method. The police got a tip-off that Gurmit, Rajinder and Lakhwinder were coming to Gate Hakima from Fatahpur side on a scooter with drug consignment. Following this, a CIA staff team laid a checkpoint and nabbed the accused with intoxicating tablets. He said the accused’s bank account and Paytm account details were taken and further investigation was under way. He said Central Jail authorities were informed about the mobiles being used by the accused prisoners. Responding to this, jail authorities launched a search operation and seized three mobile phones from Prince, Sukhwinder Singh and Sukhchain Singh.
