Improve sex ratio, health staff told

Tribune News ServiceAmritsar, June 11With an aim to improve sex ratio in the district and to check maternal death rate, a meeting of block extension educators and lady health visitors (LHV) was conducted at the civil surgeon’s office here on Tuesday. District Family Welfare Officer Dr Sukhpal Singh instructed the employees concerned to update sex-ratio survey at the sub-centre level. He said there was a need to reduce total fertility rate about which health staff should make young couples aware. He said a list of villages with most skewed sex ratio would also be prepared and special attention would be given to such villages. A district-level team would keep a check on the employees to implement the government’s programme successfully, he added.

Amritsar, June 11 With an aim to improve sex ratio in the district and to check maternal death rate, a meeting of block extension educators and lady health visitors (LHV) was conducted at the civil surgeon’s office here on Tuesday. District Family Welfare Officer Dr Sukhpal Singh instructed the employees concerned to update sex-ratio survey at the sub-centre level. He said there was a need to reduce total fertility rate about which health staff should make young couples aware. Dr Singh said registration of all pregnancies should be done immediately so that women may be provided the required health facilities and further to keep a check on illegal sex selective abortions. He said a list of villages with most skewed sex ratio would also be prepared and special attention would be given to such villages. He added that awareness events would be organised in villages. Health officials also warned the employees against any laxity in performing their duties. A district-level team would keep a check on the employees to implement the government’s programme successfully, he added.
