BOOK LOVERS DAY Dhananjai Madaan Amritsar, August 9 National Book Lovers Day is a special day for every bibliophile. Book lovers cherish these faithful companions savouring the journey from one page to the other. They have picked them up at various junctures, sometimes casually, sometimes with due thought. Many have been gifted, some borrowed and not yet returned...the words encased in the cover have received significant investments of time, and sometimes mind space. So this day is marked especially for the book worms, who enjoy the company of books more than anything else in the world. Anushka Handa, a young student and reader, says, “Books have always been my comfort and my friend in need. I have the best company and guide for a good day and an impactful life. Books broadened our imagination and help us escape the world. We should celebrate this day with pompous and joy. We can plan book fests, or maybe library visits and exchange the books just like we do it with sweets during Diwali.” Ana Sharma, an avid reader, says, “Books have been defining generations and moulded the thinking of millions since the time they came into existence. To think that all this came about because the author picked up a pen and wrote a few words which transformed the world into what it is today, where the strength of words and the amount of magic they contain could not be more apparent.” Purva Dua, a young student, sharing the joys of reading, says, “I’m celebrating World Book Lovers Day by re-reading some of Shakespeare’s most successful tragedies. One cannot be everywhere and do everything. Books allow you to experience the whole range of human emotions in one lifetime. Good books take you on a ride through range of emotions but ultimately drop you off at clarity. My favourites include To Kill a Mockingbird, The Book Thief, The Great Gatsby, 1984, Lifting the Veil, The Colour Purple, If on a Winter’s Night a Traveller, and many more.” Renu Chabra, a house wife and a book lover, says, “Now a days students are not so into reading books but they don’t know that books are far better than the cell phones which they use all days. According to me, National Book Lovers Day should be celebrated by gifting books in schools.”
