IN BRIEFTarn Taran: Leaders of Dal Khalsa and others organisations have slammed the police for detaining them to prevent them from holding a protest on the Independence Day. Kanwar Pal Singh of the Dal Khalsa said the police started raiding the houses of SAD (Amritsar), Dal Khalsa and Satkar Committee members a day before their scheduled protest create fear among activists. He got the honour during a felicitation program organised by VIPNET at Arpit Institute, Rajkot, Gujarat. TNSBaba Bakala: Over 150 customers took part at a meeting organised by Bank of India here at a private hotel recently. Avtar Singh, deputy zonal manager, apprised the customers about the history of the bank and its role in nation building.

The organisations had given a call to observe black day on August 15. They urged the CM to seek explanation from the local police chief for banning the protest and detaining their men, led by Satnam Singh Paonta Sahib. Kanwar Pal Singh of the Dal Khalsa said the police started raiding the houses of SAD (Amritsar), Dal Khalsa and Satkar Committee members a day before their scheduled protest create fear among activists. OC Teacher honoured Amritsar: Sanjeev Kumar, vocational teacher of Government Senior Secondary School, Jabbowal, received certificates of excellence from Vigyan Prasar Network (VIPNET), an autonomous body of Department of Science and Technology (DST), for his contribution to the field of science through his club activities. He got the honour during a felicitation program organised by VIPNET at Arpit Institute, Rajkot, Gujarat. A number of reputed scientists along with 150 club coordinators from all over India took part in this mega event.
