Unsafe school building houses 350 students

Despite being declared unsafe sometime back, the school continues to run classes from the same building. The school has 350 students and ten teachers with five rooms. Though the district Education Department claims to have moved students to another building which is safer, the ongoing work in the new complex has forced students to move back to the previous unsafe building on a temporary basis. School incharge Gurmeet Kaur said: “This building is unsafe. The incharge has moved the students back to old building due to the ongoing work at the new place.

Despite being declared unsafe sometime back, the school continues to run classes from the same building. The school has 350 students and ten teachers with five rooms. The ceiling had collapsed few months back. The walls are worn out and cracks have appeared. Students could be seen sitting on floors during school hours. There is an utter collapse of infrastructure. Though the district Education Department claims to have moved students to another building which is safer, the ongoing work in the new complex has forced students to move back to the previous unsafe building on a temporary basis. Teachers had been contributing to improve the infrastructure at the school. School incharge Gurmeet Kaur said: “This building is unsafe. The ceiling had fallen few months ago. Teachers contributed to rebuild the pillars. We do not need rewards but we want proper and safe schools for our children.” Former Congress man Mandeep Singh Manna also a paid a visit to the school and expressed concern over its condition. He said: “It is shocking that the children are being made to study here. It is an utter failure of the government in providing safe and sound facilities to the nation builders.” DEO Elementary Education Jograj Singh said, “I had issued a letter declaring the building as unsafe. I paid a visit to school today as well. The incharge has moved the students back to old building due to the ongoing work at the new place. This has been done for a week only.”
