2-day workshop for teachers begins at GNDU

Amritsar, September 6A two-week workshop on ‘Instructional strategies for science teachers and teacher educators in pedagogy of science’ being organised by the Centre of Learning and Pedagogic Study, School of Education of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU), under Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching began on Friday. Prof Amit Kauts, project coordinator, School of Education, said through the workshop, the teachers would learn to develop a variety of science demonstrations, experiments and thought-provoking ideas that promoted exploration and strengthened critical thinking skills by using various instructional strategies. Dr Deepa Sikand Kauts, Head of Department of Education, laid emphasis on the conceptual understanding of science for bringing back the joy of learning. She further highlighted the challenges faced by science teachers in selecting appropriate pedagogy. As many as 25 participants from various universities and colleges of North India are part of the workshop.— TNS
