SHO, SI suspended for negligence

Tarn Taran, September 20A two-member team of the Punjab Scheduled Caste Commission visited the Mannan village along with local officials and collected the firsthand information of torturing members of an Amritdhari family about three weeks ago. Raj Kumar Hans and Darshan Singh Kot Krar, members of the SC Commission, expressed their sympathy with the victim family. Meanwhile, SSP Dharuv Dahiya has suspended sub-inspector Ajay Kumar Khullar, SHO Chabal, and sub-Inspector Desa Masih for negligence in handling the case. The SC Commission condemned the police officials for their negligence and ordered the higher officers of the Health Department to take stern action for tempering the medico legal report (MLR) of the victims at the hospital. When the victim family went to the police station to lodge a complaint, the SHO and the other policemen did not register a complaint.

It was worth mentioning here that Baljinder Kaur, sarpanch of Mannan village, Daljit Kaur and Bhai Satnam Singh Khala, members of Amritdhari family, and residents of the village were brutally tortured by 24 armed persons of the village on September 2. The miscreants also attacked the police station. When the victim family went to the police station to lodge a complaint, the SHO and the other policemen did not register a complaint. The police have registered a case under Sections 452, 326, 323, 324, 506 of the IPC and Sections 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms and SC/ST Act against the erring police officials. The accused are allegedly associated with the Congress. — OC
