Science teachers learn innovative methods of teaching at workshop

Amritsar, September 20A two-week workshop on ‘Instructional strategies for science teachers and teacher educators in pedagogy of science’ under the Centre of Learning and Pedagogic Study, School of Education, concluded here on Friday. The workshop was organised under MHRD’s Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya National Mission on Teachers and Teaching scheme. Prof Amit Kauts, project coordinator, School of Education, welcomed the guest and said the basic goal of the workshop was to make the participants aware of the innovative teaching methods in science for active participation of students to experience scientific concepts. Dr Sikand emphasised how the job of science teachers has become very crucial in this transition period. She also mentioned about the challenges faced by science teachers due to globalisation and rapid technological development.

During the valedictory session, Prof KS Kahlon, Registrar, GNDU, highlighted the role of teachers in shaping the personality of students. Dr Deepa Sikand, Head of the Department of Education, presented the report of the workshop. Dr Sikand emphasised how the job of science teachers has become very crucial in this transition period. She also mentioned about the challenges faced by science teachers due to globalisation and rapid technological development. The workshop was attended by 25 participants from various universities and colleges of Punjab, Haryana, Maharashtra and HP. The participants also shared their perception on how the workshop helped them in realigning their pedagogical knowledge with the changing times. — TNS
