Man killed over property dispute

The deceased has been identified as Amarpal Singh (47), a resident of Rishi Vihar on Majitha Road here. Those booked were identified as Manjinderpal Singh, his wife Manbir Kaur, son Sahibjit Singh, his wife Kanwal Kaur and Sahibjit’s son Harkaran Singh, all residents of Vichhoya village. Gurpinder Kaur told the police that she got married to Amarpal Singh in 2002 and had two daughters from the marriage. On November 2, she allegedly got a call from a village resident that Amarpal had a dispute with his parents and other family members over the issue and they had killed him for usurping his land and property.

Though the incident occurred on November 2, a complaint was lodged with the police only on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Amarpal Singh (47), a resident of Rishi Vihar on Majitha Road here. The police have booked the suspects on the statement of victim’s wife, Gurpinder Kaur (45). Those booked were identified as Manjinderpal Singh, his wife Manbir Kaur, son Sahibjit Singh, his wife Kanwal Kaur and Sahibjit’s son Harkaran Singh, all residents of Vichhoya village. Gurpinder Kaur told the police that she got married to Amarpal Singh in 2002 and had two daughters from the marriage. She alleged her in-laws wanted to name around 32 acres of land to Amarpal’s elder brother’s son. Her father-in-law Manjinderpal Singh also transferred Amarpal’s eight acres of land in the name of Manbir Kaur. She stated that her husband along with her father and uncle got the record from Ajnala to know the truth. On November 2, she allegedly got a call from a village resident that Amarpal had a dispute with his parents and other family members over the issue and they had killed him for usurping his land and property. Investigating officer Avtar Singh said the police had registered a case under Section 302, 201, 406 and 34 of the IPC against the suspects while no arrest has been made so far. He said investigations were underway.
