Sanjhi Rasoi begins in a week

The Sanjhi Rasoi, aimed at providing food at a meagre cost to poor people, is already running in several districts of the state. Notable among those are Chief Khalsa Diwan Educational Society (Rs 50,000 per month) and Ragni Sharma from Amritsar Engineering College (Rs 10,000 per month). The Health Department has been assigned the duty to check the quality of food every day to ensure nutritional and hygienic food.

Amritsar, April 29 The proposed ‘Sanjhi Rasoi’ by the district administration to provide meal for Rs 10 per head is all set to start in the first week of May. Deputy Commissioner Kamaldeep Singh Sangha said, “With the help of individuals and social organisations, the administration will initiate the facility of Sanjhi Rasoi in the first week of May. Instead of setting up a single counter, we will ensure that counters are set up in various places so that people need not travel far for the food.” The administration was earlier hesitant of starting the facility as the expenditure on meal per head was calculated at Rs 17. The administration has held a series of meeting to rope in donors. After getting good response from donors, the administration is confident of starting the facility. Not only organisations, but also individuals have come forward to contribute regularly to the scheme. Notable among those are Chief Khalsa Diwan Educational Society (Rs 50,000 per month) and Ragni Sharma from Amritsar Engineering College (Rs 10,000 per month). A city resident, Manohar Singh Chadha, and people in his friend circle have announced to provide one bag of wheat flour every month. The Sanjhi Rasoi, aimed at providing food at a meagre cost to poor people, is already running in several districts of the state. The local administration has also studied the models of such kitchens running in Chandigarh and Ludhiana. The Health Department has been assigned the duty to check the quality of food every day to ensure nutritional and hygienic food. Civil Surgeon, Dr Pardeep Chawla said the Health Department would keep a check on the quality of the packed food items.
