Amritsar, June 27 As many as 118 students of Khalsa University today appeared for three-day counselling at Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU). The GNDU today wrote to the Khalsa College Governing Council (KCGC) seeking the list of students of Khalsa University. After the Cabinet gave its nod to scrap the university in April to “protect” the legacy of the 125-year-old Khalsa College, uncertainty prevailed among the students. Following this, the Khalsa University (Repeal) Ordinance-2017 came into force. It was later endorsed by the Punjab Governor too. The KCGC challenged it in the Punjab and Haryana High Court and the next date of the hearing is on July 11. The GNDU has been directed to adjust the students of Khalsa University in its campus or affiliated colleges. Meanwhile, the KCGC today requested the GNDU to reschedule the counselling schedule. Dr KS Kahlon, Registrar, GNDU, said the university had turned down the request of Khalsa University as it could not reschedule the counseling, which was time framed as per the government’s guidelines.
