Amritsar, September 13 The Amritsar rural police has arrested two persons for allegedly possessing illegal weapons. Though the accused claimed that the weapons belonged to their friends and they were licensed, they failed to produce any document in this connection. Those arrested were identified as Harkirat Singh, son of Navjot Singh, a resident of Malluwal Santa village in Tarn Taran, and Lovepreet Singh, son of Balbir Singh, a resident of Shaheed Udham Singh Nagar in Amritsar. They were booked under Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act at the Lopoke police station. According to information, a police party had put up a naka near the Ramtirath bus stop and were checking vehicles. The police team signalled a car to stop. However, instead of stopping, the car occupants reversed it due to which it stopped. It gave ample chance to the police party which surrounded the car and pulled out the two youths. The police recovered three weapons from the car. These included a .32-bore revolver with three bullets, a .315-bore rifle with four cartridges and a .12-bore gun with 10 cartridges. Dilbagh Singh, the investigating officer, said the two youths did not have any criminal record. They claimed that the weapons belonged to their friend. Nevertheless, they were yet to produce any documents to support their claims. “Even if the weapons were licensed, nobody, except the owner, can keep it,” he pointed out while adding that further investigations were underway.
