Mother of Mumbai resident lodged in Pakistan jail wants remission

It wouldn't be easy to return without my son," she said, adding that simply going there and meeting him under their conditions didn't hold any meaning.

"But we are reluctant to travel to Pakistan now. It wouldn't be easy to return without my son," she said, adding that simply going there and meeting him under their conditions didn't hold any meaning. "How will I return without my son? I wouldn't be able to do it. I won't leave my son there and would want to bring him back with me," Fauzia Ansari, mother of Hamid, told TOI on Wednesday.Fauzia has filed a petition in the Peshawar high court, seeking remission for Hamid, who is undergoing a three-year prison term since his conviction by a military court in December 2015. She said her priority was that Peshawar high court should consider her son's case on priority, the next hearing of which was in January.She said Hamid was sentenced by a military court for alleged 'anti-state activities'. She urged the court to substitute the word 'anti-state activities' with 'illegal activities' and had sought court's order for the prison authorities to allow remission.Hamid (31) had left for Afghanistan on November 4, 2012, on a tourist visa. On November 12, 2012, he left from Jalalabad for Peshawar and entered Pakistan on a fake name of Hamza, which was sent to him by his Facebook friend from Karak with whom Hamid had stayed for two days. On November 14, 2012, Hamid's friend left him in a hotel in Kohat , where he was arrested. He was sentenced to three-year imprisonment by an army court on charges of espionage and was shifted to the Peshawar central prison and then to the Mardan district prison.Till November 10, 2012, Hamid was in touch with his family but after that there was no news from him. It was due to Fauzia's habeas corpus petition that the court informed her on January 13, 2016, that Hamid was in the custody of the Pakistani army and was being tried by a military court.
