Bathinda, February 10 A red bus today broke down on the GT Road near Hanuman Chowk owing to a technical snag. The bus was ferrying passengers when the snag developed. The reason behind the breakdown has been attributed to poor maintenance. The buses have been crying for attention for quite some time. But the authorities concerned have not shown any interest to sort out the issues of these buses. Besides old city buses which has been designated for long routs, newly purchased mini buses has also reportedly started developing snags as it seem that these have not been maintained properly on a daily basis. Low-floor and exceptionally long red buses were started in April, 2012. It was an initiative of the Municipal Corporation (MC), Bathinda, which bought 10 buses at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. The buses have been handedover to the PRTC on the build-operate-transfer (BOT) basis. In the end of the last year, the MC launched mini buses in the trans-railway line. These buses are also being run by the PRTC. The maintenance issue of long buses is now under scanner. An official of the civic body said long buses were facing problems, due to which the civic body had purchased mini buses which were perfect for the city.
