BHOPAL/JABALPUR: The Election Commission has ordered a probe after a video of Jabalpur SP Amit Singh dancing with Congress minister Lakhan Ghanghoria during a marriage ceremony in Sagar district had gone viral on social media.The move came following complaints by BJP leaders with Madhya Pradesh chief electoral officer VL Kantha Rao.Talking to TOI, Rao said, "We are getting the matter thoroughly investigated".In their complaint, BJP leaders said that Jabalpur SP Amit Singh was dancing with cabinet minister Lakhan Ghanghoria in a marriage ceremony at Sagar held on February 21. The fact that the SP was dancing with the minister makes it amply clear that they are close and this act could affect the transparency and impartiality in the upcoming Lok Sabha election, the BJP leaders alleged.When contacted over the issue, the SP said, "Varnali, who is an IAS from Assam cadre is my batch mate. His husband Vivek Ranjan is a 2006 batch officer and he is senior to me. There was a marriage in their family on February 21 and I was invited. I had to go to Bhopal for attending an EC seminar on February 21 and 22. While going to Bhopal, I dropped by at the marriage ceremony at Banda in Sagar district. It was fully a family environment and I was dancing with my batch mate and her husband"."Cabinet minister Ghanghoria also came and started dancing. He is a member of the host family and when family members started dancing, I stepped back. I had visited the marriage ceremony on a private vehicle and had informed the IG and DIG, Jabalpur regarding this", the SP addedIt is noteworthy that Amit Singh is one of the three officers who were felicitated by the poll panel for their duties in the 2018 assembly polls.Meanwhile, local Congress leaders have come up in support of the officer. Jabalpur city president Dinesh Yadav said, "The SP had visited the function on the invitation of his batch mate and senior. He was not in uniform. BJP MP Virendra Khatik and his younger brother, who is also a BJP office bearer, were also present at the marriage ceremony. If anything was wrong, then theBJP should take strict action against them too".
