Kolhapur: Dahi handi events started on Thursday, with joy and enthusiasm. People thronged several chowks and streets to witness the thrill of dahi-handi events of various organisations and political parties. The events went on till late on Thursday. Roads leading to Dasara Chowk, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj chowk, Gujari Chowk, Mirajkar Tikti, Laxmipuri area were closed by the city traffic department in the second session of the day.Yuva Shakti Dahi Handi organised by Dhananjay Mahadik Yuva Shakti and Bharatiya Janata Party at Dasara chowk with prize worth Rs.3 lakh was the main attraction in which several Govinda troops from Shirol, Gadhinglaj, Nesri, Ajara and other parts of western Maharashtra participated.Dahi handi of New Gujari Mitra mandal on Mahadwar road, Chhatrapati Shivaji Chowk Sanyukt Mitra mandal at Shivaji chowk, Shiv Sena Nishta Dahi-Handi by Thackeray supporters at Mirajkar Tikti, Bawdekar Akhada at Shivaji Peth, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena dahi handi at Gujari corner on Bhausinghji road also witnessed heavy rush of visitors. Govinda troops arrived in trucks and broke the Dahi-Handi one after the another.
