Sushilkumar pitches for daughter’s ticket for Solapur Lok Sabha seat

Kolhapur: Praniti Shinde should be given a ticket to contest Lok Sabha election from Solapur in 2024, said her father and former Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde.Speaking at Solapur on Sunday morning, the veteran Congress leader said Praniti, who is now a Congress MLA from Solapur Central, is competent and he would request the Congress high command to consider her candidature for the Lok Sabha polls.She is competent. She has a good command over Hindi, Marathi and English. When she speaks in the House, the nation listens. I want her to get the ticket, said Shinde, who represented Solapur Lok Sabha between 2009-2014. He was defeated by BJP candidates in the 2014 and 2019 polls.Last month, Basavraj Patil, the observer sent by the state unit of Congress, stated that Congress workers in Solapur are keen on fielding Praniti Shinde as their candidate for the Lok Sabha seat. Patil had said that he would send a report to the party leadership about the party supporters opinion that Praniti could defeat the BJP candidate here.Sushilkumar Shinde, after getting defeated, was sidelined in the party. He was not given any party position until recently when he was made the observer to interact with newly elected Congress MLAs from Karnataka to choose the next CM of the neighbouring state. Shinde, an octogenarian leader, is physically active and is likely to retire from active politics.
