Key suspect, 7 others arrested in ₹3,000-crore investment fraud

Kolhapur: The economic offences wing of the Kolhapur police claimed a major breakthrough in the alleged Rs 3,000-crore share and investment trading fraud following the arrest of its mastermind, Lohit Singh Subhedar, and seven of his aides.Hundreds of investors from Kolhapur, Pune, Jalna, Beed and other parts of the state were allegedly cheated last year by Subedars firm A S Traders. Subedar was absconding. On receiving a tip that Subhedar would come down to Kolhapur from Mumbai, the police set up traps for him at Peth Naka and Kini toll plaza on the Pune-Bengaluru highway and nabbed him.We have traced and attached assets worth Rs 12 crore, including six flats in Navi Mumbai, five acres of land in Karnataka, and five plots in the Mudshingi MIDC area on the outskirts of Kolhapur city. The total amount siphoned off could be in the hundreds of crores. The Indian Meteorological Department issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms in several districts. Water levels in various dams in the region are at high capacities, with Radhanagari dam at 97.43%, Tulshi dam at 82.39%, and Warna dam at 98.89%. In Satara, Koyna dam has reached 84.12% capacity with an inflow of 3760 cusecs. Nashik district has also seen an increase in water stock in its dams due to heavy rainfall.Drug peddler dispatched to Kolhapur jailNoor Aam Abdul Rehman Ansari, a ganja smuggler from Nagpur, has been sent to Kalamba Jail in Kolhapur under the PIT NDPS Act. He was arrested in November last year after being on the run. Noor, along with his brother Salman, Jishan, and accomplice Preet Arora, used to buy and sell ganja in Nagpur. The court recently rejected their bail applications, and they have been in jail since their arrest.
