MEERUT: A special Pocso court in Saharanpur sentenced a 24-year-old man to five years of rigorous imprisonment for trying to forcefully take a six-year-old girl to an isolated room in her house in 2017. Special judge Shabih Zehra also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the man identified as Mohd Danish, which will be given to the victim in full as compensation.Special public prosecutor Vivek Kaushik said, The convict, who lived near the victims house in Saharanpur, attempted to drag the minor girl to a secluded room but fled when the childs grandmother intervened upon hearing her cries. Given the circumstances, the court recognised that the situation could have escalated had the grandmother not arrived in time."The victims father registered the FIR on July 7, 2017 under IPC section 354 (assault or use of criminal force on a woman with intent to violate her dignity) and the Pocso Act. Later, the sections were amended, said Kaushik. He added, The court found him guilty under Section 9M/10 of the Pocso Act 2012 (punishment for aggravated sexual assault). Following the courts verdict, the convict was detained and directly sent to jail.
