BIJNOR: Four Uttar Pradesh police personnel were suspended for dereliction of duty after a man booked for criminal intimidation fell from the roof of a house in Bijnor district and died during a raid to arrest him, officials said on Friday.According to police, the incident occurred in Kotwali Dehat village on Thursday evening when they were searching for Mohd Shehzad, 35, a resident of Tivadi village, in connection with an ongoing case. An FIR was registered against him under IPC sections 506 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint) at Dhampur police station on August 28 following a womans complaint. Police had been trying to arrest him since then, superintendent of police (SP) Bijnor, Neeraj Kumar Jadaun said."Shehzad tried to flee after seeing the cops, fell from the roof of his sisters house and died," the SP said, adding, "In a video of the incident, policemen are seen fleeing the spot after Shehzad falls. It was their duty to take Shehzad to hospital." He added, "Their action reflects negligence of duty and sub-inspector Anil, head constable Manoj Kumar and constables Ankit Rana and Vijay Tomar were suspended. A departmental probe led by SP rural Praveen Kumar Ranjan has been ordered. The post mortem, accompanied by videography, was conducted."Contrarily, Shehzads family claimed a neighbour, Mohammad Salman, threw a brick at Shehzad, causing him to fall. They lodged a police complaint against four individuals, including neighbours Salman and his brother Afsar, claiming an altercation with Shehzad led to the incident. As per the complaint, the police were present but left after the fall. Salman, Afsar, and two others from Tivadi, village head Shameem and Jameel Ahman, have been implicated in the FIR, which alleges Salman acted on Shameems instructions. SP Jadaun said, "The inquiry will conclude within a week. A request for a magisterial inquiry has been made."
