Meerut cops recover over 100 missing mobiles, distribute them to owners

MEERUT: Over 100 mobile phones worth Rs 21 lakh were recovered by a surveillance team of UP police in Meerut, across six districts, including Ghaziabad, Muzaffarnagar and Shamli. They handed them over to their owners on Thursday. Following a special drive launched by Meerut senior superintendent of police Rohit Singh Sajwan, police traced these phones and contacted those using them. They were asked to return them to police. Most of those who submitted the phones to police said they had found the device lying unattended, picked it up and started using it.SP (crime) Anit Kumar told TOI, No one was arrested, as there were no criminal charges. During the investigation, he confessed to trying narcotics in the past but denied consuming any in the latest drug bust. His phone was found to be formatted, and officials plan to send it to a forensic laboratory to retrieve data. Depending on the retrieved data, Navdeep may be called for further questioning.
