‘Bunker kept us safe,’ says pregnant woman stuck with IITian hubby, child in shelter

Meerut: Jaideep Kaur, 30, and her husband Mohit Randhawa, 32, an IITian who is currently associated with the Zuckerberg Institute for Water Research at the Jacob Blaustein Institutes for Desert Research (BIDR) in Tel Aviv, Israel, had never heard such relentless wail of sirens since they landed in the country after their marriage in 2020. But Saturday morning was different.This neighbourhood is relatively peaceful. On October 7, at around 6.30am, we heard the shrieking sound which jolted us out of slumber. Soon enough an announcement was made and within no time we were made to vacate our accommodations and moved to a nearby shelter on the university campus, Kaur told TOI over FaceTime call from Tel Aviv on Wednesday, recounting the horror of the past few days.
