Man gets 5-year jail for attempt to rape minor boy

Meerut: The additional district and sessions court in Meerut on Thursday sentenced a man, in his late 20s, to five years in jail for attempting to rape an eight-year-old boy. The special Pocso (Prevention of Children from Sexual Offenses) judge, Ram Kishore Pandey, also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on him, with half of the amount to be given to the victim as compensation.Special public prosecutor Kuldeep Mohan said the incident occurred in March 2021 in a village in Meeruts Mawana region. He said, The boy had gone to a tube-well in his native village to take a bath when the convict, who was a neighbour, approached him, claiming he was thirsty and wanted water. However, he eventually abducted the victim.He added, The convicted individual then took the minor to a secluded sugarcane field and forcibly removed his clothes. As the victim started shouting, the owner of the field, who was irrigating the land, came to the childs rescue. The boy was found naked, and the field owner handed him over to his uncle."The verdict stated, "The victim narrated his ordeal to his mother upon reaching home, and she subsequently filed a complaint with the Mawana police station."Divulging more details, Narendra Chauhan, another Special Public Prosecutor, said, "Initially, the FIR was lodged under Section 377 (unnatural offenses) of the IPC and 5M/6 (aggravated penetrative sexual assault) of the Pocso Act. However, the accused was found guilty based on the statements of the eyewitness, the field owner, and the victim under Section 9M/10 (aggravated sexual assault). The court also imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on the accused. The case was filed by the victims mother, who alleged that the accused sexually assaulted her son and threatened to kill them. The police had filed charges under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and other relevant sections of the law. The court found the accused guilty based on medical evidence and sentenced him within a year and a half of the chargesheet being filed. The identity of the victim has been protected as per Supreme Court directives.
