3 junior doctors suspended for ‘thrashing’ patient’s kin

MEERUT: Three junior doctors of Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College under medical police limits were suspended after being booked by police on Monday for allegedly thrashing the relatives of a five-year-old boy who was brought to the hospital for treatment.The incident took place on Monday night around 8.30 pm when the minor boy, Kunal, a resident of Meeruts Kamalpur village, was brought to the hospital by his father after he accidentally came into contact with the fodder chopping machine and got his finger severely injured.The family alleged in the complaint that four to five junior doctors, who were in an inebriated condition, thrashed them.Devendra Kumar, Kunals uncle, told TOI, Our patient was in pain and no doctor was attending to him. Later, when they started treating him, we asked the doctors to handle him with care, upon which a heated conversation ensued between us and they began thrashing us. They didnt even show mercy to women and the accused doctors were in an inebriated condition.Taking cognizance of a video of the incident that is circulating on social media, the principal of the college has constituted an inquiry committee to probe the matter. Principal R C Gupta said, "Three junior doctors—Aditya Yadav, Abhishek Verma, and Abdul Manaan—have been suspended, and an inquiry committee has been set up led by a senior doctor to look into the matter. The committee has to submit the reports within three days, which will be sent to the deputy CM within seven days, and further action will be taken accordingly.
