Woman gang-raped at gunpoint

Meerut: A woman was allegedly gang-raped at gunpoint by two men of her village here, police said on Thursday.Additional SP (Rural) Kamlesh Bahadur said the woman had left home for some work on Saturday and was waiting for conveyance on the Meerut-Baraut road when the two men came on a motorbike and offered a lift. As the men were known to her, the woman agreed to go with them.The duo then took her to a deserted place and allegedly raped her at gunpoint, Bahadur said. One of the accused also abused and assaulted the womans family A case has been registered against the accused and one of them has been detained for interrogation, the ASP said, adding that further investigation is underway. The court also ordered a criminal complaint against the victims mother for turning hostile in court. The accused, Baldev Sagathiya, was found guilty of raping the 16-year-old victim and impregnating her. The court imposed a harsh sentence on the woman, Jashi Jadav, stating that she had aided in the rape. Despite the victim and her mother providing statements in favor of the accused, forensic evidence, including DNA analysis, established Sagathiya as the father of the child.
