Forest dept explores potential ecotourism sites in Bijnor dist

BIJNOR: Five teams comprising forest department officials, tourism representatives, and wildlife experts commenced surveys of various barrages and dams with a view to promoting ecotourism in Bijnor.Prominent locations under scrutiny include Pili dam, known for its serene landscape that attracts elephants and migratory birds, Harewali barrage and lake, a sanctuary for migratory birds during winter, Ganga barrage, a ramsar site, and Swamp deer wildlife sanctuary, formerly known as Hastinapur wildlife sanctuary.Bijnor divisional forest officer (DFO) Arun Kumar Singh said, Last year, we opened Amangarh Tiger Reserve (ATR) for tourists by setting up a gate at Keharipur village. Now, were opening a second gate from Pili dam adjacent to the reserve. Ganga barrage may also be developed as an ecotourism spot due to its proximity to Haiderpur wetland, a popular spot for migratory birds.Migratory birds found dead at sanctuary in Smogga; lakewater contamination likelyHundreds of migratory birds have been found dead at Gudavi bird sanctuary in Soraba, Karnataka. The birds are suspected to have consumed contaminated water from the surrounding lake. The sanctuary, home to 217 different bird species, is a major tourist attraction. The bird deaths are believed to be caused by water contamination in the partially dry lake. Wildlife experts are calling for an immediate investigation into the matter.Karnataka forest department to send wildlife artefacts recovered during raids for forensic analysisThe Karnataka Forest Department is sending wildlife artefacts recovered during raids on the residences of prominent personalities to the Wildlife Institute of India for forensic analysis. The exhibits, whether genuine or fake, will be examined to determine their authenticity. Based on the outcome of the analysis, action will be taken against those found in possession of wildlife articles. A special task force has been formed to investigate past cases and suggest measures to prevent the sale of products made from wild animals. The task force has been given a week to submit a comprehensive report.
