2022 cane scam case: 11 officials suspended

BIJNOR: Eleven officials, including district cane officer (DCO) of Shamli Vijay Bahadur Singh and Amrohas former DCO Hemendra Pratap Singh, have been suspended for their alleged involvement in 2022 embezzlement case worth Rs 4.85 crores. Both were posted in Amroha when the embezzlement took place.Main accused, clerk Ashish Saini, who was then posted in the Cane Development Council in Gajraula, had allegedly embezzled the sum and deposited it in various bank accounts.The charges against Saini were proved after an inquiry was set up by the Bareilly deputy cane commissioner. A case was registered against Saini and he was sent to jail in March this year. A committee, headed by Moradabads DCO Ajay Singh, was constituted to investigate the matter.During the investigation, Moradabad DCOs role was also found to be suspicious. The Delhi Police has already dismissed four of the accused from service, and further departmental action is being initiated against the remaining officers.Rape case: Chargesheet filed against suspended govt officialDelhi Police has filed a chargesheet against Premoday Khakha, an assistant director in the department of women and child development, and his wife for the alleged rape of a minor girl. Khakha was arrested in August for raping the girl for several months, and his wife was accused of abetting the crime and administering abortion pills to the survivor. The chargesheet includes sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act. The survivors statement, recorded before a magistrate, is cited as evidence.Colvale jail inmates burn Ravana, four officials suspendedFour staff members of Colvale central jail in Goa have been suspended after allowing inmates to build and burn a 10-foot-high Ravana effigy on Dussehra. The assistant superintendent and three jailors were suspended for their involvement in the incident. The inmates were also found to have obtained crackers, which are banned in the jail. An inquiry was conducted and action has been taken to send a message that such activities are not allowed.
